Mallya Wants Force India To Return To Jordan Glory Days

4 03 2008

Vijay Mallya, boss of Force India wants to see his new team return to some form of glory in 2009, like the Jordan team did in 1999.

Force India is the latest reincarnation in the Jordan line, and Mallya seems happy to ue their history like it were the own of his team.

Back in 1999, Jordan managed to defy the critics and finish 3rd in the title race.  Their drivers at the time were former World Champion Damon Hill, and Heinz Harald Frentzen the ever popular German.

Mallya wants podiums and wins in 2009.

“There is a good old English saying which holds that history repeats itself,” Mallya told Reuters

“Jordan was a winning team in 1999, there’s no reason why it can’t go back to its winning ways in 2009.”

A team insider informed Reuters that Mallya uses Jordan as a yardstick for the team to target, and wants the spirit of the team to return.  He also invited Eddie Jordan, a drummer in the band V10, to play at a party.

“Vijay always says that he wants everyone to enjoy themselves like they used to,” a team insider told Reuters.

“He constantly mentions Eddie’s name, he definitely uses him as his yardstick. That’s the role model that he cites which certainly enthuses everyone at Silverstone after three very miserable years.”
