Toyota’s test driver, Kamui Kobayashi has bagged his first ever GP2 win.
The Japanese racer won the GP2 Sprint race at Malaysia, in the Asian GP2 series event.
GP2 Asia uses the former GP2 cars, allowing many competitors to race before the new GP2 World Series season starts. The Malaysian rounds were a support to the F1 feature.
“This is a fantastic result!” Kobayashi said after the race. “I made a perfect start and then I led the race until the chequered flag.
“I knew Romain was fast, so I never stopped pushing. I’m really glad to offer this victory to my team: they’ve done a wonderful job this weekend and we leave Malaysia with two podiums. We are back in top form!”
Kobayashi beat Romain Grosjean, Renault’s tester but Grosjean still leads the overall title race by 11 points, with 2 rounds left (Bahrain and Dubai).
