Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro’s test driver, Marc Gene says he is lucky to be alive after a huge crash at Circuit La Sarthe yesterday.
The Spaniard was taking part in a practice session for the 24h Le Mans, driving a Peugeot 907 HDi.
The track was damp, with a drying line. Gene put the power down on the exit of the Porsche Curves and lost complete control, smashing into the barriers.
He thought he was going to die. He was airlifted to hospital, where doctors believe he may have fractured a toe.
“The truth is that I didn’t think I would survive the accident,” he said on his personal website.
“This has been, without a doubt, the biggest crash of my career and it was a miracle that I walked away.”
He will be fit to qualify next Wednesday.
