Glock Rewarded With A New Contract On Back Of Podium
Timo Glock has been awarded with a new contract with Toyota, for 2009 on the back of his first podium finish in Formula One.
The young German drove a sterling race to finish 2nd, another podium for Toyota who look to have a cracking car this season.
Toyota were on the verge of offering him a new contract before the race, but with this result in the bag they knew they had to keep him on. It has not been officially confirmed, but John Howett dropped a big enough hint that Glock would be staying alongside Trulli next year.
“As we stand here today, we intend to keep both drivers,” Howett said
“And I don’t think that’s ever been in any doubt to be honest.”
Meanwhile, Toyota F1′s team principal Tadashi Yamashina is still waxing lyrical about the fantastic performance; “I really can’t find the words to celebrate this result, the best of our season. We had a few difficulties in practice but during qualifying the drivers pushed themselves to the limit and things got better and better.
“Today Timo did a fantastic race. We saw immediately that his car was quick and his third stint was almost perfect. He was under threat from Kimi but he was quick in the third sector and he was able to fend him off.”
