Mecachrome Dismiss Leaving F1

26 08 2008

Mecachrome, a former F1 engine maker who joined forces with Supertec and Renault to make Renault F1 Team engines, and their customer devices have dismissed paddock rumour that they are about to leave the sport.

The French based firm, who were pioneers with aviation and F1 engines have been in the sport for many years, have been part of engines produced for World Champions like Michael Schumacher and Damon Hill (badged Renault). They also made engines during 1998 and 1999 for British American Racing (badged Supertec) and Benetton (badged Playlife).

They are a major partner with Renault, but with the new engine freeze rules there was rumour Renault were goign to just make engines in-house without Mecachrome or Supertec.

An official statement read: “The agreement entered into by these two companies continues to run its course and Mecachrome is, at present, actively cooperating in the development of these high-performance components for Renault.”
