The major Spanish banking group Santander have dismissed popular rumour that they are moving to Ferrari next season along with Fernando Alonso.
According to an article in a British newspaper, Santander are looking to increase their status within the team, and also sticking with them for the next 2 years of contract.
It was reported not long ago that Santander (which owns Abbey National) were going to become a major sponsor with Ferrari when Marlboro finally abandons F1.
“McLaren are determined to prevent their backers from defecting,” the newspaper said.
“It is understood that negotiations with Santander to broaden their involvement with the team are in progress.”
A spokesperson for McLaren meerly commented “Santander will be a McLaren partner next year.”
