F1 News, Views and Reviews

1 Year Of F1Fanatics!

Happy Birthday F1Fanatics! Yes this blog is 1 year old today.  Back on March 1st 2007, I sat on my computer and joined a website known as wordpress.com .  It then took me a few days to actually decide where i was going with this place, and after much deliberation I decided to make it into an Independent F1 News website, without subscriptions, member only areas and most importantly without advertising.  F1Fanatics will stay free, as long as im not getting charged for hosting or software!

We started out with little bits of news, which turned into larger bits and now we have fully blown interviews.  There are also now large reviews from all testing sessions, free parctices, qualifying and races.  We have specific pages for all teams and drivers from 2007-2008, a promotional video, pictures galore (the gallery is the most popular part of the site) and a fantastic reader base.

Speaking of popular, the most popular pages on the website is the gallery which has 1,070 hits (https://f1fanatics.wordpress.com/f1-gallery/) and Kimi Raikkonen’s 2007 page (https://f1fanatics.wordpress.com/2007-teams-and-drivers/ferrari/kimi-raikkonen/ ).  The most popular posts are the ones associated with the launch of the Ferrari F2008 and the non-tobacco in F1 post, which was one of my first (https://f1fanatics.wordpress.com/2006/10/23/tobacco-shown-the-door-new-sponsors-in/)

What about other things to do with these posts, I hear you cry!  Well, one of the biggest scoops was Brake Light testing in F1, but that never came to anything unfortunatly.  Some of the biggest posts are usually to do with Michael Schumacher (still).  One of the major things we had, that most news agencies across the world didn’t was the transcripts of the conversations across the radio between Lewis Hamilton and Ron Dennis where Lewis was shouting abuse at him (https://f1fanatics.wordpress.com/2007/05/30/hamilton-swore-uncontrollably-at-mechanic-as-dennis-forced-to-intervene/).  We made a couple of mistakes, including claiming Robert Kubica had a broken leg, which fortunatly he hadn’t!  Just to finish, those interested can see the first ever post (https://f1fanatics.wordpress.com/2007/03/01/hello-world/).

So, over the course of the 1st year, we have had 56,897 hits, and been on the wordpress frtonpage as the top new story once,  800 posts and linked back too countless times and even been mentioned on larger websites.  A good year I can say!

For the future, I will continue bringing you the good service, some changes may occur but right now I feel that the website is running well, the pages are good and the theme is very usable.

Finally, If it wasn’t for you readers, the people who post comments (all 176 of them) and to all of the people that contact me via email, MSN, MySpace and Facebook this place wouldn’t be possible.  A special thanks to some people close to me, my family for keeping me sane and doing it, my friends for their support, Christian Whitehead for his continuous support throughout the times where I thought about stopping, Jamey Price and Dani Freedman from Facebook, all of the guys at OneF1, Amipriz (Lazio Blog, who made a few comments early on), FreshF1 (the first linkback), Connie at Anglerred and all of the F1 drivers, teams and people behind the scenes that make our favourite sport tick! There are too many people to thank for their support!  Sorry!  some other good people i forgot, Bruce McCulloch and Christian Ferm and the guys from GCZ for their support too, thanks gents!

Here’s to another year of success, a great season and some brilliant news reporting!
