BMW Confirm Same 3 Drivers For 2009
BMW Sauber ended all speculation of their 3 drivers being involved in changes over the silly-season by confirming Robert Kubica, Nick Heidfeld and Christian Klien as the drivers for 2009.
Kubica and Heidfeld stay as test drivers, while Christian Klien is spending another season testing with the Hinwil based squad.
Nick Heidfeld’s job had been rumoured to be in jepoardy, but this looks to be safe now. It closes the door for Fernando Alonso who only has Renault and Honda left as choices.
“We see Nick and Robert as a strong driver pairing and Christian as an experienced test driver,” said BMW motorsport boss Mario Theissen.
“We are in no doubt that we will again achieve our ambitious aims with them in the team’s fourth year.”
Heidfeld admitted that he was very happy to be staying with BMW Sauber.
“I’m very pleased about this announcement and about the confidence that the team have shown in me,” said Heidfeld.
“I’ve always said that I was happy to stay with BMW Sauber because we’ve managed to achieve what we set out to do at this stage and I really hope that we will be battling it out for the title itself next year.
“There have been times this season when neither I nor the team could honestly say that we were satisfied with the way things were going, but we have always pulled together and come through.”
