Haug Rules Di Resta Out Of F1 In 2009
Norbert Haug boss of Mercedes Motorsport has ruled DTM star Paul di Resta out of F1 next year.
Haug believes he has the talent to be an F1 driver, but needs to get back behind the wheel of an open-wheel race car before hitting F1.
Di-Resta has spent the last 2 seasons racing in the popular touring car series DTM, and with Force India likely to announce a Mercedes engine and parts deal it was thought that di Resta would be racing with them next year.
However, it looks like Haug is offering the Scot GP2, the offer becoming increasingly likely after Di Resta has been seen testing with ART Grand Prix.
“The options for Paul next year are either to stay in DTM or go into GP2 – but nothing is decided,” Haug was quoted by PA.
“We need to look and see what the next steps are. I think he is an exceptional guy and he has the ingredients, but you never know. You need to find out and then go from there.”
