Doornbos and Liuzzi Make A1GP Portugal Race An F1 Affair
On a relatively quiet Easter Sunday [Happy Easter everyone!], there was at least some F1 excitement in the A1Gp Sprint Race held at the new Algarve Circuit in Portugal.
The series, which is powered by Ferrari using cars that are very similar to the F2004, has been going from strength to strength since it started in 2006.
Vitantonio Liuzzi, the former Red Bull and Toro Rosso driver who now works for Force India as a tester was starting his first ever A1GP race for the Italy Team. HE lined up in pole position after an epic qualifying session yesterday.
However it was Robert Doornbos of A1GP Team Netherlands who took the flag, as Liuzzi made some rookie mistakes in the presence of seasoned pro A1 drivers.
Doornbos of course drove for both Minardi and Red Bull, working later as a reserve and test driver. He lines up on pole position for the Feature Race.
We like to occassionally update on Ex-F1 driver’s racing extroverts in other series, let us know if you like to hear it!
