Ferrari To Pay Raikkonen Off At End Of Season
Kimi Raikkonen will be ‘paid off’ by Ferrari to end his contract early at the end of the 2009 season, British tabloid The Sun suggests.
Raikkonen will step aside for a £25million fee, half of his 2010 salary so that Ferrari can employ Fernando Alonso.
Alonso has been connected with Ferrari for sometime now, and with Spanish bank Santander joining the Scuderia as a sponsor from next season it has become an almost certainty that the two time world champion has signed a pre-contract for a number of seasons.
Since mid 2008, Raikkonen has been under the spotlight with poor performances and a lack of motiviation. After his WRC debut, many think he will leave F1 for rally, but he could stay in F1 possibly with a team such as Renault or maybe make a shock return to McLaren.
