BREAKING NEWS: Michael Schumacher To Mercedes Benz?!

Eddie Jordan, former team owner and BBC Sport pundit has said Michael Schumacher is going to Mercedes Benz for the 2010 season.

The outspoke Irishman says that meetings are in progress as I write these words to release Schumacher, 41, from his contract with Ferrari.

The most successful driver of all time to make a massive return to the sport with the new team for 2010 and be reuinted with his former top technical man Ross Brawn.

It is unknown how much Mercedes will pay Schumacher, but it could be around £50million-£100million.

“It started with a meeting between Michael, Ross Brawn and Daimler chief executive officer Dieter Zetsche at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

“At the moment, it is not possible for Michael to drive for Mercedes because he has a consultancy contract with Ferrari.

“But I understand he was due to meet Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo with a view to him being released – and that it will be approved because it is in the interests of F1.

“I believe that is being planned at the moment.

“I also believe Ross and Michael have spoken in recent times and that Michael likes the idea of driving a Mercedes run by Ross. It’s a mouth-watering idea.

“Schumacher was bitterly disappointed he didn’t get to come back to replace Massa – he’s keen to race again. And this is a dream for both parties.

“Michael and Mercedes have go way back – he drove for their sportscar team before he raced in F1, and they were responsible for getting him in to F1. They paid the then Jordan team to give him his debut in 1991.

“He has won all these titles but never driven in F1 for Mercedes.”

the idea is that Schumacher will drive for 2010 before Sebastian Vettel is brought in for 2011.

I can’t believe Schumacher is coming back, and I am down right sad that he must have lied about his injuries and the fact he would never drive again back before Valencia after Massa’s accident.  If Schumi showed loyalty to his team then he wouldn’t even be considering this.  To Ferrari and to Ferrari fans he is a God, but not coming back on minute and then accpeting a massive salary to drive a whole season the next looks a bit dodgy.

As of the moment it is 100% unconfirmed.

come on. this isn’t breaking news. It’s Eddie Jordan! You can’t take what he says and then write it as “The most successful driver of all time to make a massive return to the sport. ”

Take a breath. More like take a nap, have some tea and we’ll see how this plays out.

Have you asked yourself how M-B is going to justify that kind of paycheck when the board freaked out about the purchase of the team in the first place? Employees are cutting back hours and the F1 team are valuing MS at the same level as the entire team, if not more? This doesn’t sound like news to me, though who knows with that bunch?

It’s NOT just EJ. The moment Button left and we already knew Rubens was gone…the rumors started. THEN when MB jumped in, it was a foregone conclusion that MS name would be tossed around as the favored driver and another German driver to make it an all German team (almost). EJ was a couple of days late in actually writing it down. If that WASN’T the first thought that crossed your mind when the MB deal as announced…well you’re NOT an F1 fan. You just like the sport.

  4. Arnet, i know it was just EJ, but I thought it being published by the BBC that it had at least some standing. The title of their article was “Schumacher to be announced with Mercedes today” before they adjusted it about an hour later after it all kicked off.

Anyway, this is a blog so we can have the chance to write certain things that may not be 100% true yet, therefore be ahead of the game. I announced Toyota’s withdrawl before Autosport, but this time I got it a little bit wrong.
