Soucek Fastest On Jerez Rookie Test Day 1

Andy Soucek, the reigning Formula 2 champion was fastest for Williams on the first day of the “Rookie-Test” in Jerez.

The aim of the days this week on the Spanish circuit is to give young drivers the chance behind the wheel of an F1 car, which has become severely limited thanks to the testing ban.

Soucek was impressive in the Williams, a car he was given the chance in thanks to winning the aforementioned F2 title.  He spun early in the day but edged to the top of the timesheets.

Paul di Resta, the highly talented DTM driver was only tenths of a second off Soucek’s time in the Force India, and this solid performance is lkely to bode well for the Scot who is aiming to become the teams third driver for 2010, considering his challenger JR Hilderbrand only managed 10th place overall.

Gary Paffett, McLaren’s “nearly man” was just down in 3rd, being edged by DTM opponent Di-Resta late on.

Daniel Ricciardo recovered from an accident avoidance with Brendon Hartley early in the day to grab 4th, ahead of Jules Bianchi in 5th for Ferrari and Mike conway in 6th for Brawn.

Hartley, who spun off and smashed into the barriers was the slowest driver of the day.
