Lopez Set To Be Confirmed In USF1 Role
USF1 are set to confirm their first driver at a major press event on Monday.
Jose Maria Lopez, an Argentinian racer, formerly a Renault F1 team test driver is said to have finalised the deal this weekend, with his heavy sponsorship based deal coming through for the team based in Charlotte, USA.
Lopez raced between 2004-2006 in GP2 and won one race in 2005 with the DAMS team, a team which supported Kamui Kobayashi who now races with Sauber following a good test spell with the Panasonic Toyota team.
Lopez raced a lot recently in his native Argentina, and has got this drive in the most part thanks to finances provided from sponsors and the Argentinian government, with former F1 driver Carlos Reutemann offering governmental support from his high flying political position.
“Everything has been agreed and the official announcement will be made on Monday,” Miguel Mattos, Lopez’s spokesperson told Reuters this morning.
